Brass with an original mercury thermometer.  Antique Taylor Home Candy Thermometer.  It has the original chain with a solid wood hanger.  There is a moveable guard for the thermometer and a clip on the back which enables the thermometer to be attached to the pot.  8 1/4" X 1 5/16". Made in Rochester, NY.  Very nice.
