One Blue and White Teacup. 2 3/4" high. Lovely blue and white transferware of various flowers and plants. There is a thin crack that can be easily seen on the inside of this cup. I can barely see it on the outside at the top of the cup. This is a thicker ceramic or porcelain cup. It is also taller and has a smaller mouth than the traditional English teacups. Each cup design has a specific purpose. Tall and narrow teacups, also known as nosing cups, allow you to smell the tea better. The smaller opening directs a smaller amount of tea entering your mouth when drinking. By entering your mouth through a smaller space, the tea will hit the tip of your tongue the most. The tea will taste sweeter than it would with a broader teacup. Studies show that the tip of the tongue is where tasting sweetness is tenser, and the back of the tongue and sides is where bitterness and sourness are tenser.
